The African Shorts programme brings forth stories of LGBTIQ individuals within an African context. What does it mean to live in a society where you are ostracized because of your gender expression or sexual orientation? Struggles with family relations and belonging also come into play.

The short film screening includes the films:
Reluctantly Queer (dir. Akosua Adoma Owusu)
From the Same Soil (dir. Nicky Newman)
Dance with the Maiden (dir. Thishiwe Ziqubu)
Impunity (dir. Isaac Matovu).

Contrary to the festival catalogue, director Isaac Matovu is unable to make it for a Q&A. Instead, the short film screening will conclude in an after talk with Lindsay Louis, the South African Embassy Cultural Attaché. The talk is moderated by Shayne Moira.
